How gestational age is calculated

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), about 2 weeks before conception. A full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks (280 days) from the LMP. If your cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days, the dates are moved by the difference. A dating ultrasound in the first trimester is the most accurate way to confirm how far along you are.
